The expansion of the invasion of all Brazilian hydrological systems by the golden mussel, as has already happened in other countries, is only a matter of time. Only those waters, whose physical and chemical parameters are not adequate to the vital development of L. fortunei, will be free of invasion.

L. fortunei control (golden mussel)

The selective, ecological and innocuous control of the golden mussel is a challenge. This mollusk causes havoc wherever it is installed. Without enemies that can keep its expansion at a distance, it dislodges other species and installs itself in structures that produce energy and irrigate our fields.
Millions of hours of work have been spent by scientists from all countries where L. fortunei is installed in order to find an effective and environmentally compatible solution. Millions of dollars have been spent and continue to spend, to the despair of those responsible.
After many years of research and a lot of money invested, MARRONE BIO INNOVATION achieved a product capable of responding to this challenge: The control on D. polymorpha and D. rostriformis bugensis.

Now, we are going to verify how Zequanox responds to this new challenge with L. fortunei
ZEQUANOX, is a product based on dead microorganisms. Pseudomonas protegens is a bacterium that, ingested by the mussel as food, causes its death. Its effect is lethal only to the target mussel. Other species feed on Zequanox without counterproductive effect. The water is not affected and after the application process the physical-chemical conditions, they return to their original state. Is not it fantastic?

Algae Control


Eutrophication alters the environmental characteristics of aquatic ecosystems, altering the trophic chain and increasing the entropy (disorder) of the ecosystem. The result is ecosystems with reduced biodiversity, with opportunistic species occupying niches previously occupied by other species. The ecological consequences are obvious, but as they generally go hand in hand with economic losses for different reasons.


The lack of oxygen causes the lower mollusks to die and fish and crustaceans die or escape to unaffected areas. Invasive species accustomed to lack of oxygen may appear (eg, barbs and perches can displace salmon and trout).
In certain circumstances, an anoxic zone (without oxygen) can be created at the bottom of difficult removal. It is a dense, dark and cold water, in which neither algae nor animals can grow.

Protection of submerged structures


The use of high-frequency ultrasound to avoid algae and scales in submerged materials or in permanent contact with water is not a new technique. It has been used since times with a high degree of effectiveness to keep clean pipes, tanks, fountains, pools, ponds or in agriculture to keep drinking water from cattle in conditions

Nor is it novel in its application in ships to destroy the biofilm (or microbiological layer) that is adhered to the hull or any structure submerged in fresh or salt water. In fact, in France, more than three thousand ships are equipped with ultrasonic technology to keep their hulls clean.
It is a totally ecological and harmless system that operates at a frequency not harmful to humans or animals.
