RSPC-IEBVERT
VERTICAL SYSTEM OF DETECTION AND CONTROL OF INVASIVE EXOTIC BIVALVES

The establishment of colonies of mussels on the vertical walls of the infrastructures affected by this phenomenon (dams, drinking water reservoirs, large deposits ...) is a determining factor in the expansion of the invasion.
It is also the starting point for the introduction of larvae and juveniles in closed and semi-enclosed systems (forced pipes, spillways, water inlets, cargo tanks, canals, pipes and galleries, balancing chimneys, cooling system ...).
These systems are extremely vulnerable and require constant supervision and maintenance. The technical stops caused by the clogging of the filters in the refrigeration systems is one of the most frequent ones.
So far, all procedures to mitigate the impact of these incidents have been done mechanically and manually.
The RSPC-IEBVERT team contributes to a remarkable improvement in these operations of detection, control and removal of waste originated by dead individuals. The fully automated process allows locating the colonies on vertical walls up to 30 meters, and in special cases can reach up to 60 meters.
From the operations vehicle, the different operations are performed. With only one technician, we can perform the functions that until now were carried out by a team of 5 or more people.
