Treatments of hydroelectric plants

Critical areas.

In this case, the dam of the plant is built on a stretch of river where there is a large gap. The water level of the reservoir is located near the end of the upper level of the dam.

In the middle of the wall of the dam, and to take advantage of the volume existing in the upper level, there is the water intake and at the bottom base, (waters below the dam), the engine room with the turbine-alternator group.

Although in a hydroelectric plant we must consider any element where the flow of water flows, we distinguish in this type of installation the structures that could be affected by the colonization of bivalves:

  1. Gates

  2. Filtration grids

  3. Coffins

  4. Water intake (section)

  5. Cooling pipes

  6. Rocking Tower

Solutions

Detection of colonies on the vertical wall of the dam

Depending on the case, we will use the CRAB ECOWATER robot or the RSPC-IEBVERT device.

We will be able to visualize the situation of the colony, its size and the volume of specimens without the need to use divers or decrease the level of the water line. This means a significant saving of downtime and maintenance expenses

Infestation at the entrance of water, gates and filters.

In this area, we will avoid incrustations of adults by applying a treatment with ECOWATER INNOVA, based on an ecological and innocuous and long-lasting (5 years) anti-fouling.

ECOWATER CERAMICS will be the most effective, durable and economical solution.

On-site biobox test.

This operation, prior to any treatment, consists in verifying that the equipment and products used to control the invasive mussel will not affect the mass of water or other non-target native species. The procedure used is patented by Marrone Bio Innovatión and Ecowater Technologies owns the rights of Europe and Brazil. This process complies with international standards in procedures for measuring the physicochemical parameters of water, as well as for toxicity and the effect on other inhabitants of the system.

The biobox test lasts three days

Infestation cooling system

The treatment of this phase of the system will be a combination of ZEQUANOX and ECOWATER CERAMICS.

With the first treatment, we will eliminate any living individual by means of a shock system, regardless of their stage of life (larvae, juveniles and adults). We will keep the system closed for a period of 2 to 6 hours, according to characteristics and dimensions of the semi-enclosed system. The treatment will be repeated once or twice a year, coinciding with the technical stops planned by the hydroelectric plant.

The second treatment consists of the application of ECOWATER CERAMICS in the filter zones and baskets of the cooling system. The application of this anti-foulant will prevent the fixing of any individual on the treated surfaces for a period of not less than 5 years.
